With America now in the war the Allies'
air power was now considerably stronger. Bombing raids on Germany
intensified. The Americans flew missions through the day and the
British at night, exposing the German people to the full horror
of war. The Blitz on Britain brought retribution from the RAF.
Pinpoint bombing of factories by day, to discriminate bombing
of cities at night. Terrorised German civilians would experience
the "Firestorm" that would sweep the targeted city. The hope was
to break the will of the populace, and damage the heart of the
Nazi industrial war machine. Albert Speer (Hitler's Armaments
Minister) believed the Allied
air offensive of bombing Germany was the start of a second
front.
The track reflects the horror of total
war and, more importantly, the feelings that ran high for revenge
for years of constant terror bombing of British cities during
the Blitz. Fighting fire with fire. The track, 'Reap The Whirlwind',
takes its title from a speech made by Arthur 'Bomber' Harris from
Bomber Command.
The speech starts the track.
Arthur 'Bomber' Harris (RAF): "The
Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that
they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to
bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a dozen other
places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They
sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind."
What a way to live
your life
in the shadow of death most of the time.
All alone going out of your mind
in a foreign field left to die.
What you experienced seemed like Judgement Day
that unleashed the firestorm and decay.
I can taste it, I can really feel it,
I can see it, I just don't believe it.
Let us pray for a solution.
Let us pray for resolution.
Let us pray for absolution.
Let us pray for, let us pray for,
let us pray for, let us pray for retribution.
There'll be no tears when they die,
after a while they will find.
They'll go crazy, they ran out of time.
The tables have turned, now it's our time, our time.
We never did we never towed the line,
we're fighting back we've got right on our side.
I can taste it, I can really feel it,
I can see it, I just don't believe it.
Let us pray for a solution.
Let us pray for resolution.
Let us pray for absolution.
Let us pray for, let us pray for,
let us pray for, let us pray for retribution.
Now the war years have left their mark,
a new world order was about to start.
Our eyes just saw darkness in mind,
nothing more, nothing less.
We live our lives, we live in a bad dream,
in the wake of two warring machines.
I can taste it, I can really feel it,
I can see it, I just don't believe it.
Let us pray for a solution.
Let us pray for resolution.
Let us pray for absolution.
Let us pray for, let us pray for,
let us pray for, let us pray for retribution.
