highlands.

5th
Eight
guman from the Palestine terrorist group 'Black September' take
eleven Israeli athletes hostage at the Olympics games held in
Munich, West Germany. Two hostages are murdered during the siege,
and In a failed rescue attempt the remaining nine hostages are
killed.
December
7th - 19th
NASA's
seventh and last Moon mission, Apollo 17. The crew of Eugene
Cernan, Ronald Evans and Jack Schmitt, they landed the 'Challenger'
LM on the Sea of Serenity.
Congress
had cancelled the Apollo Moon missions 18, 19 and 20. Apollo
17 was NASA's last Moon mission, although Apollo 18 was designated
to the Apollo-Soyuz mission in 1975.
Britain
imposed direct rule on Northern Ireland.
American
Fischer took the world chess title from the Soviet Union representative
Spassky in Iceland. As the Cold War was played out on the chess
board.
