fourth Moon mission Apollo 14. The crew of Alan Shepard,
Stu Roosa and Edgar Mitchell. At the age of 47, Alan
Shepard became the oldest astronaut to walk on the Moon.

men were arrested for breaking into the offices of the Democratic
National Committee headquarters in the Watergate Hotel, Washington.
June 30th
Soyuz
11 disaster. The Soyuz 11 crew, Georgy Dobrovolsky, Vladislav
Volkov, Victor Patsaev were all killed on the spacecraft's
re-entry to Earth.

NASA's
fifth Moon mission Apollo 15. The crew of David Scott,
Al Worden and James Irwin. This mission was the first time a
lunar rover was used, and increased the area of exploration
during the EVA.

Nikita
Sergeevich Khrushchev died. Khrushchev succeeded Joseph
Stalin. He was a Soviet statesman, a leader of the Communist
party and head of the Soviet government between 1953 - 1964.
The
United States began a policy of détente with China and
the Soviet Union.
East
Pakistan became the independent state of Bangladesh.
