Explosion of the Soviet Moon Rocket N1. The lost Soviet rocket on the pad was said to be ready for a Moon attempt by the Soviets to beat the Americans to Moon glory.

July 13th

Soviet probe Luna 15 crashed into the Moon. An attempt to steal some of the 'propaganda pie' from the planned American Moon landing.

July 20th

Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the Moon during the Apollo-Saturn 11 mission. Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin joined Armstong on the surface from LM, while Michael Collins orbited above in Columbia.

The supersonic aircraft Concorde made its first flight.
