Churchill defined the shape of post war Europe in his 'Iron
Curtain' speech at Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri,
United States. |

Stalin
decreed the development of ballistic missiles in the Soviet
Union. |

 |
The
United States conducted atomic bomb tests on Bikini Atoll, 2500
miles west of Hawaii. 'Operation Crossroads' planned for three
atomic blasts, 'Able', 'Baker' and 'Charlie'. Only two were
carried out. |

 |
Nuclear
test, codename 'Able' was air dropped by a B29. But 'Baker'
was detonated, at 8.35am, 90ft under water. Both tests were
conducted to record the effect of nuclear blasts on a fleet
of ships. |

The
21 kiloton under water blast of 'Baker' created such an unexpected
large amount of radioactivity in the area, that President Truman
cancelled the deep water detonation test of 'Charlie'. |

nations met in Paris, France, for a Peace Conference. |

The
Secretary of State James F. Byrnes made a speech in Stuttgart,
Germany. His speech caused ripples in Eastern Europe. |

The
Nuremberg Trials were concluded, as leading Nazi leaders
are tried for war crimes. Nazi foreign minister Ribbentrop was
one of those found guilty and was hanged for his war crimes. |

The
"Zentralwerk" was dismantled and transported to the
Soviet Union with part of the staff, which included German rocket
scientists. |

Wells, English writer died. Among his classics were 'The Time
Machine', 'War Of The Worlds' and 'The Shape Of Things To Come'. |
