astronaut Leroy G. Cooper was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma,
USA. Cooper went into space in Mercury 9 (MA-9), 15th
May 1963, and again with Gemini 5 (GT-5), 21st August
1965. |

Soviet
cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov was born in Moscow. Komarov
took part in the Voskhod 1 mission on the 12th - 13th
October 1964, and later killed during the Soyuz 1 mission
on the 24th April 1967. |

Charles
Lindbergh became the first person to cross the Atlantic in a
non-stop flight. The 'Spirit Of St. Louis' flew from Roosevelt
Field, Long Island in New York to Le Bourget airport in Paris
in 33.5 hours. |

astronaut Elliott See was born. Part of the back-up crew
for the Gemini 5 mission, and the command pilot for the
Gemini 9 flight. But was killed in a crash of a T-38
jet, on the 28th February 1966. |

formation of the Verein für Raumschiffahrt (VfR) rocket
group in Berlin, Germany. The group was founded by Max Valier
and Hermann Oberth among others. |

cosmonaut Vladimir Shatalov was born in Kazakhstan. Shatalov
served as the pilot on the Soyuz 4 mission on the 14th
- 17th January 1969. |
