astronaut Malcom S. Carpenter was born in Boulder, Colorado,
USA. Carpenter was one of the original Mercury 7 team, and would
go into space in Mercury 7 (MA-7).
June 26th
Soviet
cosmonaut Pavel Belyaev was born. Belyaev was commander
of the Voskhod 2 mission that saw Alexey Leonov
be the first man to walk in space on the 18th - 19th March 1965.
July 24th
"Monkey
Trials" opened in Dayton, TN. William Jennings Bryan led
the prosecution against high school teacher John T. Scopes,
accused of violating Tennessee state law prohibiting teaching
of evolutionary theory. Defence attorney Clarence Darrow won
the argument but lost the case. Scopes was fined $100.
Hindenburg
became the President of Germany.
Hitler's
'Mein Kampf' was published.
Vietnamese
Nationalist Party established under Ho Chi Minh.
The
Chinese National Party (Kuomintang) was taken over by Chiang
Kai-shek.
In
South Africa, blacks were banned from skilled jobs.
John
Logie Baird invented and developed the television.
