Uprising against Ottoman rule broke out in Albania.

April.

Albanian revolt was suppressed by the Turkish army.

King Edward VII of the Great Britain died. His son Prince George became King George V.

The earth passed through the tail of Halley's Comet .

The union of South Africa was established.

August 13th

The 'Lady with the Lamp' English nurse Florence Nightingale died. Nightingale served as a nurse in the Crimean War.

Japan annexed Korea.

November 7th

The Wright Brothers used flight for the first time to deliver goods. The commercial freight travelled between Dayton, Ohio and Columbus, Ohio.

November 20th

Mexican Revolution exploded Francisco I. Madero denounced President Porfirio Díaz, declared himself President and called for a revolution to overthrow the government of Mexico.

November 20th

Russian writer and author of 'War and Peace', Leo Tolstoy died.

December 16th

A failed robbery on a jewellers in the East End of London, by four (Latvian) anarchists was the prelude to the Sidney Street Siege. Three policemen were shot and three robbers were captured. Other members of the anarchist gang escaped and went into hiding.
